About me

For the love of language

Louise Normandiere - TranslatorSomebody once asked me, “What did you want to be when you were at school?” Casting my mind back, I realised that I actually wanted to be a translator…

I am Louise Normandière, a very English girl with a very French name! I’ve been a full-time freelance translator since 2009, working with entrepreneurs, local businesses, translation agencies and international companies to translate their French language documents to English.

My passion for language began in high school, motivated by my inspirational French teacher. After years of study I came to work in France as part of my BA Hons. Degree in International Business and Languages. My love for the country and the language was instant; I returned after finishing my Degree and I’ve never left!

I’m based in Angers, in the Loire Valley.

I have worked in a wide variety of bilingual and translation roles across France, gaining insight and experience across an interesting array of industries, customer bases and mind-sets. Some of my former bilingual roles include:

  • International Marketing Assistant at Servier, a French pharmaceutical firm in Paris
  • PA to the American CEO of a start-up company in Monaco
  • Event Consultant for Amadeus, based in Sophia Antipolis near Nice
  • PA for an international architect in Nice

One of my favourite projects was co-ordinating the creation and production of two bilingual coffee table books from concept to print: “Cap Estel: A Villa through Time” and “The Gardens of Cap Estel”. The books recounted the history of a stately home at the tip of a peninsula on the French Riviera. I was responsible for recruiting an author and a translator for both books, proofreading and editing their work, coordinating photography, design and printing processes and translating speeches for the book launch. I loved every minute.

Today I work across a variety of exciting industries, specialising in technology, life sciences, pharmaceuticals and marketing communications. I am a member of the SFT (the French Society of Translators) and abide by their code of conduct.
